STUDENTS of several departments of Islamic University in Kushtia on Saturday filed a written complaint against Al-Quran and Islamic Studies chairman Professor Nasir Uddin Mizhi following the circulation of an audio clip in which he made derogatory remarks about a female student’s clothing.
The complaint was lodged with the university’s acting registrar Professor M Monjurul Haque seeking suspension of the teacher.
According to the complaint, in the audio, Professor Mizhi is heard making disparaging remarks about women participating in protests demanding justice in the Sajid Abdullah murder case. He reportedly mocked their clothing choices and referred to them as ‘not human’ and ‘lowly animals.’
Students condemned the comments as deeply offensive, misogynistic, and an attempt to undermine women’s right to protest and express themselves freely. They emphasised that such statements amount to mental harassment and violate basic principles of gender dignity and equality.
They demanded immediate suspension of Professor Mizhi and called for legal action following a fair and transparent investigation.
Contacted, IU acting registrar Professor Monjurul Haque said that he received the complaint. It would be placed before vice-chancellor Professor Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, who will decide on appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with university rules, he added.
The incident has sparked outrage among students and faculty alike, prompting renewed calls for accountability and gender-sensitive conduct within academic institutions.
