The police arrested three people, including two women, on charges of robbing a house in Khulna city after posing as tenants on Saturday.
The arrested were Arif Hasan Russell, 29, a resident of Krishnanagar village in Bagerhat; Maria Akter Munni, 19, of Bisharighata village under Morrelganj; and Koli Pande, 45, of Dauniyafad village under Batiaghata in Khulna.
All three had been living in the Glaxo Mosque Lane area of Khulna city.
According to police, the incident took place on October 30 at the home of Chayan Kumar Mondol on BK Main Road in the Purba Baniakhama area under Khulna Sadar.
The suspects allegedly tied up a housewife and looted gold ornaments and cash worth Tk 1.82 lakh from her residence.
Following a case filed by the house owner on October 31, the police reviewed CCTV footage and conducted a swift operation.
A team from Khulna Sadar Police arrested them at the Glaxo Moor Mosque Lane area on Khan Jahan Ali Road.
Khulna Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner, south, Sudarshan Kumar Roy said that the robbers had contacted the victim through a Facebook group named Houses for Rent in Khulna, using a fake profile under the name Umme Muna.
When the house owner was unavailable, he asked his wife, Pratima Mondol, to show the house to the supposed tenants. The suspects then carried out the assault and robbery.
The police recovered the imitation pistol, three smartphones, a cap, and two pairs of sandals, a set of headscarves, and Tk 2,000 in cash from their possession.
