Md Ali Akbar

Former senior district and sessions judge Md Ali Akbar on Wednesday was appointed as commissioner of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission for a four-year term.

According to a circular issued by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance on the day, the order will be effective immediately.


The circular, signed by deputy secretary Farida Yasmin, also stated that Md Ali Akbar’s salary and other benefits would be determined according to the terms specified in his employment contract with the government.

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government amid a mass uprising on August 5, Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam resigned as chairman on August 11 and Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed and Rumana Islam resigned as commissioner of the BSEC on August 12.

Khondoker Rashed Maqsood was appointed as chairman of the BSEC on August 18.

Md Mohsin Chowdhury and and ATM Tariquzzaman are the two others commissioners of the stock market regulatory body.
