The 49th anniversary of the death of veteran politician Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani was observed across the country on Monday with the demand for observing the day nationally.

Different political parties, socio-cultural, professional and civic bodies as well as different educational institutions observed the day recalling the great leader’s sacrifice throughout his life for the sake of the country and its people.


They placed wreaths at his grave and organised discussions, prayer sessions, mass feeding, blood donation camps and competitions to mark the day.

Born on December 12, 1880 to Haji Sharafat Ali and Mosammat Mojiron Bibi in Sirajganj of erstwhile East Bengal, Bhashani died on November 17, 1976 in Dhaka. He was laid to rest at Santosh in Tangail.

Jatiya Mukti Council leaders at a rally in front of the National Museum demanded official recognition of Maulana Bhashani as a national leader.

Secretary of the party Faiezul Hakim demanding recognition of Bhashani called on the political parties to follow his ideals for establishing rights of the oppressed people.

National Awami Party held a discussion at Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad auditorium on Topkhana Road with its president Shapon Saha in the chair.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent from Tangail reported that Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani’s death anniversary was observed at the premises and adjacent areas of Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University campus at Santosh in Tangail with various programmes on Monday.

Different political parties, socio cultural organisations and MBSTU organised the programmes to mark the day.

MBSTU vice-chancellor Professor Md Anwarul Azim Akhand and the family members of the legendary leader placed a wreath at the grave of the leader in the morning.

Political and social leaders also laid wreaths at his grave from early in the morning till evening at Santosh in Tangail.

To mark the day, the university distributed food among the poor on the day and arranged a special prayer session after Juhr prayers. MBSTU students also decorated his grave premises.

Earlier on Sunday, Bhashani Anushari Parishad organised a medical camp on the campus. The Bhashani followers also arranged a seven-day Bhashani Fair on the campus and adjacent areas from 11 November to 17 November. A large number of people visited the fair every day.

Different political parties and socio-cultural in Tangail organised various programmes, including placing wreaths at the grave of Bhasani, doa and milad mahfil, mass feeding and folk songs.

BNP vice-presidents Shamsuzzaman  Dudu and Ahmed Azam Khan and publication secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Haque and Gono Odhikar Parisad president Nurul Haque Nur and others  placed wreath at the grave.

Tangail district unit BNP, JP , JSD, Communist Party and Workers Party, Islamic University Boys’ High School, Tangail district Mahila Dal, Sramik Federation, Prothom Alo Bandhusava, Bhashani Manch, Bhashani Foundation, Tangail District Easybike Society, Bhashani  Adarsha Onusari Parishad, Bhashani Srity Sangsad, Maulana Bhashani Janokalyan Parishad, Bhashani College, Govt MM Ali College, Govt Sadat College, Govt Kumudhini College, Tangail Press Club, Tangail Municipality, Tangail Bidi Sramik Union, Tangail Club, Tangail Transport Owners and Workers Association, Tangail Auto-tempo Sramik Union, Tangail District Muktijoddha Command, Udichi Tangail, Shaheen Pre-cadet School, Shilpokala Academy, Projanmo-71, Awami Sangskritik Jote, Ranjan Shilpa Samity, Sonali Otit Sangskritik Gosthi, Maulana Bhashani College, Khoda-e-Khidmatghar and many other organisations placed wreaths at the grave of the mass leader.
