10 vehicles, including nine cars and a motorcycle, were burnt in a fire at a car repair workshop in Sylhet on early Monday.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the fire broke out at Dhaka Auto Engineering Workshop at Pathantula under Jalalabad police station in the city at about 1:30am.
‘Reason behind the fire incident could not be found out so far,’ he said in the afternoon.Â
Sylhet Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy director Md Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan said that they reached the spot at about 1:40am.
‘Eight fire fighting units brought the blaze, which had spread to several nearby shops, under control at about 3:00am after a frantic effort of around one hour and a half,’ he said.
Shafiqul said that nine cars and a motorcycle were inside the repair shop and burnt in the fire but the extent of damages could not be ascertained immediately after the incident. Â
Jalalabad police station officer-in-charge Shah Mohammad Mobashwir said that one of the damaged cars belonged to an officer of the Sylhet district police and added that preparation to file a case was under way.
