
An elderly man was shot dead and two were injured in a clash between two Bangladesh Nationalist Party rival groups over supremacy at Alokbali of sadar in Narsingdi on Thursday.
The deceased is Idan Mia, 65, uncle of Alokbali union BNP鈥檚 joint secretary Nazrul Islam.
Activists of one BNP faction assaulted three Narsingdi-based journalists when they visited the injured in the district general hospital.
The injured journalists are Ayub Khan Sarkar of Jamuna Television, Ashikul Rahman Piyal of Somoy Tv and Ekattor TV cameraperson Emdadul.
One of the clashing groups is led by Nazrul and the other group is led by Abdul Kaiyum Mia, an expelled member secretary of Alokbali union unit of the BNP.
Deceased Idan Mia is a follower of Nazrul and the two injured are the followers of Kaiyum.
According to local people, the clash took place in the Alokbali area in the morning.
The police said that the members of the law enforcement agencies, after receiving the news of the clash, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sujan Chandra Sarkar said that they had been working to identify the attackers.
The body was sent to Narsingdi General Hospital for post-mortem examination, he said.
Neither Nazrul nor Kaiyum could be reached over the phone for comments.聽聽
