
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in four divisions in the next five days from Thursday evening.
The BMD鈥檚 weather forecast, issued at 6:00pm on Thursday and valid for the next 120 hours or five days, reads that light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.
Along with this, moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions are likely to occur.
Same day, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre also issued a warning, saying that the Kushiyara River was flowing 41 centimetres above the danger level at Amalshid (Sylhet) point and six centimetres above the danger level at Fenchuganj point.
In the next 24 hours, the Teesta and Dudhkumar rivers may flow at warning levels, it said.
The water levels of the Someswari, Bhugai, Kangsha and Jinjiram rivers in Mymensingh may continue to rise in the next 24 hours, and in Mymensingh, Netrakona and Sherpur districts, the rivers may flow at warning levels.
The water levels of the Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers may continue to rise over the next five days, but are expected to flow below their danger levels.
The water level of the Padma River may continue to rise for the next three days and remain stable for the following two days, but is expected to flow below the danger level.
The water levels of the Surma and Kushiyara rivers may continue to decrease for the next three days and during this period, the existing flood situation in the low-lying areas adjacent to these rivers may improve.
The water levels of the Ghaghat, Tangon, Upper Karatoa, Mahananda, Karatoa and Atrai rivers in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions have increased during the past 24 hours.
The water levels of these rivers may continue to rise in the next 24 hours, the centre warning added.
