Leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, detained an activist of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the Awami League, and handed him over to the police.

The BCL activist was detained as he came to attend his classes at Rajshahi College on Thursday.


The detained is Sagar Reza, a third-year political science department student of the college.

Witnesses said that the JCD and Shibir activists detained and questioned Sagar on Thursday morning when he came to attend his classes at the college.

Then JCD and Shibir activists checked Sagar’s Facebook posts and found that he actively participated in BCL and AL programmes during the AL-led tenure, they said, adding that the JCD and Shibir activists also slapped Sagar on his face and body.

Khalid Bin Walid Abir, convener of the Rajshahi College unit of Chhatra Dal, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they detained BCL activist Sagar and handed him over to the police as he was directly involved in attacking a student procession during the July mass uprising.

Mostak Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the Boalia model police station, said that Sagar was not named in any case filed with the police station.

‘As Sagar was found accused in a case filed earlier with the police station over an incident at Rajshahi College, he was shown arrested in the case,’ he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, JCD activists detained and handed over BCL activist Mazharul Islam Ashiq, a third-year history department student of the college to police as he came to attend his viva voce at Rajshahi College on the day.
