The investigation agency of the International Criminal Tribunal on Saturday issued a public notice, seeking information on the crimes committed to suppress the anti-discrimination student-people movement in July-August.
The notification called upon all to contact the ICT investigation agency鈥檚 Dhaka office if they have any information, documents, photographs, audio-video clips, related to killings, serious injury, arson, looting and other crimes for using those in proving the said crimes.
Various forces of then government and Bangladesh Awami League-led coalition parties, allied organisations, loyal or employed illegal arms holders, criminal persons or groups have committed the crimes during the period from July 1 to August 5, 2024, aimed at suppressing the anti-discrimination student movement, the notice said.
People are requested to send the required information through email [email protected] and mobile numbers 01711-905603, 01611-905603 during office hours of the investigation agency.
The public notice was issued by retired additional inspector general of police Mazharul Haque, coordinator of the investigation agency housed at Dhanmondi residential area 11/A Comrade Farhad road, house no-87.
Necessary confidentiality would be maintained in this regard, the notice assured.
Over 50 complaints have so far been submitted to the investigation agency and the prosecution office of the ICT from July 5 to August 5, for the genocide and crimes against humanity committed across the country.
The ICT has begun the trial proceedings with issuance of arrest warrants against 46 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday.
On October 14, the ICT was reconstituted with additional judge of the High Court justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder as the new chairman. The other members of the tribunal are justice Md Shofiul Alam Mahmood and retired district and sessions judge Md Mohitul Haq Anam Chowdhury.
On September 5, Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Tajul Islam was appointed as the chief prosecutor of the ICT. The government on September 18 reconstituted the probe body of the ICT with appointment of 10 members to carry out investigation into the crimes against humanity.
The appointees are additional deputy inspector general (retired) Md Mazharul Haque, police super (retired) Muhammad Shahidullah Chowdhury, additional police super of anti-terrorism unit Md Alamgir, additional police super, police bureau of investigation headquarters, Md Monirul Islam, additional police super, special branch Dhaka, Md Jane Alam Khan, assistant police super, traffic and driving school Dhaka, Syed Abdur Rouf, police inspector (unarmed), criminal investigation department Dhaka Metro, Md Yunus, police inspector (unarmed), Charghat Model police station Rajshahi, Md Masud Parvez, police inspector (unarmed) RRF Dhaka, Muhammad Alamgir Sarker and police inspector (unarmed), CID Dhaka metro (north) Md Mashiur Rahman.
