The Bangladesh Boxing Federation has appointed Kyrgyzstan鈥檚 Akyikat Abaev as the new head coach of the national team, confirmed the federation on Monday.

Akyikat鈥檚 tenure was not disclosed by the federation; however, he will prepare the national team for the forthcoming Asian Championships, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.

The former Kyrgyz boxer has already started working with boxers who featured in the finals of the 31st edition of the Bangladesh Men鈥檚 and the 7th Women鈥檚 National Championships.

Akyikat has previously worked in his homeland, nurtured several top boxers and led them to the World Elite Boxing Championships and the Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships.

He also worked at the Bulak Boxing Gym and the Family Sports Boxing Gym, as well as with the High Performance Team in Kyrgyzstan in 2018, but Akyikat achieved his main successes with the national team.

Bangladesh sent boxers to the recent ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and also to the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships, which took place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in May.
