
Chief adviser to the interim government Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday said that the nation was now ready for the national election in the first half of February 2026.
‘After the July uprising that saw a killing spree during the fascist regime, the country has now reached a situation stable enough and is ready for the next election,’ he said while inaugurating a stakeholders’ dialogue on Rohingya crisis in Cox’s Bazar.
He said that they had already announced that the national election would be held in the first half of February 2026.
 ‘Now, we are ready for another transition in our political history …The interim government will be replaced by an elected government,’ he said.
The interim government-led by Professor Muhammad Yunus took over on August 8, 2024 after the fall of the authoritarian regime of Sheikh Hasina amid a student-led mass uprising on August 5, 2024.
