Shakib Al Hasan became only the fifth bowler in T20 history to take 500 wickets, a milestone he reached on Sunday while playing for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League.听
Shakib reached the milestone in the 15th over of the St Kitts innings when he caught and bowled Pakistan international Mohammad Rizwan.
Shakib claimed two more wickets to take his tally to 502 wickets from 448 innings at an average of 21.43 and an economy rate of 6.78.
Only Rashid Khan, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, and Imran Tahir had reached the milestone before Shakib.听
But the former Bangladesh captain rests above the others for his exceptional all-round record.听
The left-hander is now the only player in T20 history to have completed the double of 7,000 runs and 500 wickets.听
The closest to Shakib in this incredible feat is Dwayne Bravo, who ended his career with 6,970 runs and 631 wickets.
However, Andre Russell, having amassed 9,361 runs to date, is approaching the 500-wicket milestone and currently boasts 487 wickets.
Shakib also had the most player of the series awards with nine. He has also taken the most number of five-wicket hauls in T20s among spinners, a feat he has achieved five times so far.听
The 38-year-old, who was also an MP of the fallen Awami League, last played for Bangladesh in October last year.听
He announced his international retirement from the T20I format but hinted that he would reconsider the decision if Bangladesh wanted him.听
