
The World Tourism Day was observed in the district with various arrangements under the theme ‘Tourism for Sustainable Development’.Â
On the occasion, different government and non-government organisations arranged elaborate programmes.Â
To mark the day, a colourful rally was brought out in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office at 10:00am on Saturday and ended at the same venue after parading main roads of the town.Â
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office marking ‘World Tourism Day’.
Bagerhat deputy commissioner Ahmed Kamrul Hasan, divisional forest officer of the Sundarbans East Forest Division Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, medical officer of the Civil Surgeon’s Office Md Riaduz Zaman, manager of Bagerhat Parjatan Motel Md Abul Kalam Mollah and others spoke at the discussion.
Highlighting different tourist spots of the district, speakers at the discussion said that there were various spectacular structures in Bagerhat including the Sundarbans and Sixty Dome Mosque (Shatgombuj Mosque).Â
They called for international awareness and immediate action to protect the Sundarbans by halting deer hunting and the use of poison for fishing. Officials also called on everyone to work together to develop the tourism industry.
Meanwhile, a procession was organised by the Pashur Hotel in Mongla to mark the day. Later, a boat race was held on the Pashur River. Ten engine-powered boats participated in the event.
