The authorities of Dhaka University on Saturday said that they had yet to make any substantial progress in their investigation into the allegations of printing its student union elections’ ballot papers in a nearby market.

After the elections of the Dhaka University Central Student Union and hall unions allegations surfaced that ballot papers were printed in an unprotected manner at Gausul Azam Market at nearby Nilkhet, prompting student bodies and others to demand an investigation into the matter.

DUCSU election chief returning officer Professor Mohammad Zashim Uddin on Saturday evening told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they were trying to make progress in the probe.

‘We are trying to collect information and we may be able to give an update on Sunday,’ he said.

Asked for comments, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal assistant general secretary candidate Tanvir Al Hadi Mayed said that earlier they lodged over 40 complaints, including ballot paper printing at Nilkhet’s Gausul Azam market.

‘The administration has been delaying its responses. Even after the issue came to light in media reports, they have failed to give a proper reply, which is highly suspicious. We believe they are trying to cover up irregularities,’ he said.

The DUCSU election commission on Friday said that they were probing the allegations.

The office of the DUCSU election chief returning officer on Thursday night issued a press release saying that it was giving utmost importance to the allegations over ballot paper printing in an unprotected way after controversies intensified following a television channel’s report revealing that ballot papers were printed at an unprotected printing press at Gausul Azam Market.  Â
