Bangladeshi photographer, activist and founder of Drik, Shahidul Alam, will join the Media Flotilla as a part of Freedom Flotilla Coalition, a global coalition formed to highlight the inhumanity of the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza.
The Media Flotilla to Gaza aims to break Israel’s media blackout where more than a hundred activists, mostly journalists and doctors from 45 countries, will be traveling to Gaza, an Israeli occupied Palestinian territory.
Shahidul Alam will depart from Dhaka to Italy on Sunday to join the flotilla.
The information was revealed at a press conference held at Drik office DrikPath Bhaban at Panthapath in the capital on Saturday.
Along with Shahidul Alam, writer and activist Rahnuma Ahmed, general manager of Drik curator ASM Rezaur Rahman and deputy general manager of Drik Md Kamal Hossain were present at the press conference moderated by journalist-activist Saydia Gulrukh.
‘Most of the world supports the Palestinian people, but the governments play different roles,’ Shahidul Alam said, adding that due to restriction and security concerns the identities of the activists were not published.
Most of the flotillas were attacked by Israel while Egypt and Tunisia refrained from helping, said Shahidul, adding ‘Although Spain and Italy sent ships to assist the Gaza Sumud flotilla but anything can happen in the journey.’
He also said that Drik organised many events like exhibitions and film screenings to express solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Saydia Gulrukh said that the Media Flotilla would attempt to circulate the news of occupied Gaza where Israel was committing genocide and also banned foreign journalists.  Â
The Global Sumud Flotilla, carrying 500 citizens from different parts of the world with relief supplies, began its journey from August 31 to Gaza.
The Flotilla was attacked by Israeli drones twice, triggering outrage from across the globe.
