RDL Properties Limited, a visionary township developer has signed an agreement with Shatotto, a state of the art, architectural firm headed by premier architect Rafiq Azam at a signing ceremony held at the Gregorian Alumni Club, Gulshan, Dhaka recently, says a press release.

RDL roped in the top-notch designer for their dream project ‘Shagarika’ in Kuakata. This eco development project is situated at Gangamati, about 3.2 kilometers from Kuakata Zero point. RDL is developing this ambitious project in an area of 144 acres of land, only 400 meters away from the sea. What separates the land from the sea is the revered mangrove fauna of Kuakata. This particular land is unique in its own right as it is only the second place in the world where you can observe both sunset and sunrise from the same spot.

Architect Rafiq Azam is a renowned Bangladeshi architect who has been in practice for over 30 years and has developed a distinct style of his own. His architecture is a harmonious blend of tradition, nature, and mysticism. Nature’s tiniest elements are poetically adorned in his buildings. A house, according to him, is not only a place for humans to live but also a place for butterflies and birds to nest. Rafiq’s mastery of light and shadow, water, and the air is influenced by mysticism, as mentioned by Lalon and Tagore. His maneuvers in ‘green architecture’ appear to be an inspiring process of energy gain rather than a mere mechanism of energy saving.

Syed Md. Aminullah, the managing director of RDL Properties said ‘We would not have dreamt of a project of this magnitude if we did not get architect Azam to design this. I believe this project is a perfect fit with the leading architect Azam’s mindset and vision and he is the best person to bring this dream to fruition’.

RDL’s ‘Shagarika’ is an eco-village project to lead the ecotourism in Bangladesh in a planned way. The Project will have smaller sub projects like Seavine, Pashra, Baliadi, etc. within the scope of Shagarika. Shagarika will develop with extreme care to preserve the existing nature and eco system. The company realizes the importance of wild life surrounding the project and unnecessary probing of mankind may hamper the living eco cycle there. Hence this tourism village will develop hand in hand with the co-existing wild life. The plan is to produce energy, recycle waste and harvest resources from within the nature and the project itself. All planning will be focused on attracting tourists from abroad and domestic circuit without disturbing the strata of nature and wild life. This may very well be the first proper eco village project of south east Asia.

Syed Md Aminullah, MD, RDL Properties; Shamit M Shahabuddin, chief marketing officer, RDL Properties Limited; Architect Rafiq Azam, principal architect and proprietor, Shatotto; Sihaam Shaheed, senior architect, Shatotto; Sabreen Sultana, senior architect, Shatotto and invited guests and dignitaries were present at the signing ceremony.
