
Books on the July uprising have attracted readers, mostly young ones, at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2025 organised by the Bangla Academy.
Publishers and readers said on Monday that besides uplifting the spirit of the student-led mass uprising, these books were being used as an archive for documentation.
Amjad Hossain Khan Kajol, sales manager of Oitijjhya, said that they published 10 titles on the July mass uprising and the sales of these books were good.聽聽聽
鈥榁isitors ask for information about the mass uprising books, and sometimes they mention the book鈥檚 name,鈥 Kajol said, adding that readers are interested in collections of poems and documents related to the mass uprising.聽 聽
Tasnia Ishrat Itu, a salesperson of Gyan Prakash, said that visitors looked for books on the July mass uprising for different reasons.
鈥楳ost of the readers are interested in the list of martyrs, July events and documents of the movements,鈥 Ishrat said, adding that students are not able to buy some books due to the high price but they collect some books as a group.聽 聽
Jannatun Nyeem Hafsa, a volunteer of July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, said, 鈥楢 large number of visitors look for books on the mass uprising, while books by the foundation also attract them,鈥 said Hafsa.
Asadujjaman Nur Siam, a salesperson of the Students Against Discrimination stall on the academy premises said that they collected published books on the mass uprising at their stall and displayed them to visitors. 聽
鈥楢 lot of books and other publications on the July uprising are still being published,鈥 Siam said, adding that they also sell them on behalf of the publishers. 聽
A total of 98 new titles including 12 collections of poems, 11 collections of short stories and 14 novels were published on Monday at the fair, according to the Bangla Academy officials.
Chaired by Press Institute Bangladesh director general Faruk Wasif, a discussion titled July Uprising: Graffiti by Munem Wasif will be held on the academy premises on Tuesday while activist Taslima Akhter and filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Simon will speak at the event.
