Abu Bakar Siddique

Today is the 90th anniversary of the birth of poet, fiction writer and essayist Abu Bakar Siddique.

Born on August 19, 1934 at Gotapara in Bagerhat, Abu Bakar Siddique got admitted to the Bangla department of the University of Dhaka and obtained his master’s degree in 1958.


He taught at Government Fazlul Haque College, Government Brajalal College, Kushtia College, Government Prafulla Chandra College, and Rajshahi University.

He wrote 20 collections of poems, 15 collections of stories, and four novels, among others.

The author depicted the verisimilitude of reality in his literary works such as ‘Jalrakshas’, ‘Kharadah’, ‘Bhoomihin Desh’, ‘More Banchar Swadhinata’ and ‘Charbinashkal’.

His other literary works include ‘Dhabal Dudher Swargram’, ‘Barudpora Prahar’, ‘Ekattarer Hridaybhasma.’

For his contribution to literature, he received the Bangla Academy Literary Award, Bangladesh Kathashilpi Sangsad Award, Bangladesh Lekhika Sangha Award, Khulna Sahitya Parishad Award and Bagerhat Foundation Award.

Abu Bakar Siddiqui passed away on December, 28 2023 in Khulna.
