The bodies of two fishermen, who were among eight missing after a fishing trawler capsized near the outer anchorage of Chattogram port in the Bay of Bengal, were recovered at Patenga around 5:30pm on Saturday.
The deceased were Abul Kalam and Idris Mia.
Sadarghat naval police officer-in-charge Md Arif said, 鈥榃e received reports of the bodies floating between Patenga Ghat 15 and the Peninsula area. A team, including SI Suman Deb Nath, was dispatched to the scene.鈥�
According to Mohammad Miraj, the owner of the trawler 鈥楢nika鈥�, the vessel had departed from Chattogram city鈥檚 Fisherighat area with 19 fishermen on Thursday morning. Around noon, while heading towards the deep sea through the Patenga channel, the trawler was struck from behind by another fishing boat and subsequently capsized.
Eleven fishermen managed to survive by boarding a passing local boat and returning to shore, while eight remained missing. With Saturday鈥檚 recovery, two of the eight have now been found.
All of the missing fishermen are reported to be residents of Noakhali district.
