
After a long 50 years, the initiation camp of Dhaka University Rover Scout Group is being held outside the university campus.
Dhaka University Rover Scout Group president and pro-vice-chancellor for administration Professor Sayema Haque Bidisha inaugurated the three-day camp at the Rover Scout Training Centre at Bahadurpur in Gazipur, said a press release on Friday, said a press release.
Group secretary and chief rover scout leader Mumit Al Rashid presided over the inaugural ceremony.
Former Rover Scout Forum president Mohammad Shahjahan, general secretary Zahir Ahmed Sarkar, former treasurer of the National Executive Committee of Bangladesh Scouts Fazlul Haque Arif, former regional deputy commissioner Asaf Ud Daula and rover scout leaders of the group spoke as special guests at the event. Convener of the initiation organising committee and Girl-in-Rover Scout leader Fatima Akhter delivered the welcome speech at the event.
Professor Sayema Haque said, ‘Scouting teaches discipline, leadership and humanity to the youth. This experience of the rovers will have a positive impact on every aspect of life.’
Various programmes, including training, cultural performances, outdoor activities and initiation of 130 companions have been organised in this 3-day camp from, which will conclude today.
