
Today is the 76th anniversary of the birth of Ekushey Padak-winning fiction writer Bulbul Chowdhury.
Born on August 16, 1948 at Dakshinbag in Gazipur, Bulbul Chowdhury emerged as a fiction writer in the ‘70s. He unearthed a lot of materials related to the social changes that took place during his lifetime.
The subaltern people in the society found a special place in his literary works as he had deep affection for them.
He believed that everyone deserves to live a dignified life. His love, affection and respect for the people were highlighted in his literary works such as ‘Tuka Kahini’, ‘Parmanush’, ‘Aparup Bil Jhil Nadi’ and ‘Maram Bakhani’.
His literary works include ‘Tuka Kahini’, ‘Machher Raat’, ‘Aparup Bil Jhil Nadi’, ‘Tiyaser Lekhan’, ‘Jibaner Ankibnuki’, ‘Ataler Kathakata’ and ‘Prachin Gitikar Galpa’.
For his contribution to literature, he received the Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Literary Award, Humayun Qadir Smriti Purashkar and Jasimuddin Smriti Puraskar.
Bulbul Chowdhury passed away on August 28, 2021.
