The Border Security Force of India pushed 56 more people into Bangladesh through different border points in Chapainawabganj, Panchagrah, and Mymensingh districts on Tuesday.

Of the fresh push-in incidents, 26 were pushed through two border points in Panchagrah, eight through a border point in Chapainawabganj, and 22 through a border point in Mymensingh, according to Border Guard Bangladesh and police officials.

Meanwhile, foreign affairs adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Tuesday said that it was not possible for Bangladesh to face push-ins by India physically, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.

‘We see it (push-in) is happening. It is not possible to face physically,’ the UNB quoted Touhid as saying while responding to a reporter’s question as he was talking to journalists at the foreign ministry.

He also said that Dhaka would soon send a fresh and substantive diplomatic note to New Delhi over the continued push-in of people across the border, reminding New Delhi of the set mechanisms to address such matters.

With the latest push-ins, the number of people sent into Bangladesh by India since May 7 has reached 1,272 amid tight security measures taken by BGB and the police along the border, said BGB headquarters.

The BGB detained eight people for illegally entering Bangladesh through Chanshikari border under Bholaganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on early Tuesday.

BGB-59 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria said that they detained eight people at about 4:30am on Tuesday.

‘We are scrutinising their identities. We will hand them over to the police,’ he added.

BGB officials quoting detainees said that the Indian police had detained them at different times for illegal intrusion and they had been in the Murshidabad Central Jail.

They further said that the detainees had entered India at different times between 2017 and 2024.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Panchagrah reported that the BSF pushed in 26 people, including nine women and nine children, through two border points under Sadar upazila in the district early Tuesday.

A total of nine people were pushed in through Borobari border of Haribhanga union and 17 through Khuniapara border of Chaklahat Union under Sadar upazila.

The Indian police detained them from Hariyana state and took by air at Bagdogra Airport and handed them over to BSF members, BGB officials said quoting detainees.

BGB-56 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Mohammad Badrudozza in Nilphamari said that the BSF had pushed 26 people into Bangladesh illegally.

‘Our patrol team detained them. We have held a flag meeting with the BSF at company and camp commander levels, asking why they did not push them after informing us,’ the BGB official said.

He further said that they had continued 24-hour patrol and surveillance in the bordering areas.

Panchagrah Sadar police station officer-in-charge Abdullahil Zaman said that most of the detainees were residents of different areas in Kurigram district.

‘We will take necessary steps after verifying their identities,’ the OC added.
