European Union ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller said on Monday that the European Union did not have any opinion about the country’s election date.

He, however, said that the EU had support for the ‘ambitious reforms’ initiated by the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus and the reforms would require time.

‘We don’t have any opinion about election time. We don’t have any pressure for any particular date for election,’ Miller said while addressing the DCAB Talk at the National Press Club.

The EU envoy said that they wanted the election to be held in a free, fair and credible manner in keeping with the international standard.

He was responding to a question about the chief adviser’s assurance that the election would be held between December this year and June next year.

About the trial for those behind the atrocities committed during the July uprising, he said those responsible for criminal acts must be held accountable and its process must be transparent.

The Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh president AKM Moinuddin moderated the event.
