The Election Commission has procured around 70 per cent of the polling kits required for the upcoming 13th national election, said the commission’s senior secretary, Akhtar Ahmed, on Thursday.

Talking to journalists at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargoan, he said that preparations for the national elections were in full progress.

He hoped that the major procurement of election materials would be completed by the end of September.

The commission is currently developing an application named Postal Vote BD to facilitate postal ballot-related registration of expatriate Bangladeshi voters.

Akhtar said that the timeframe for registration of new political parties and observer organisations, and dialogue with stakeholders would be finalised at the next meeting of the commission, scheduled for next week.

He said that an on-site investigation for 22 interested political parties seeking registration has been completed so far.

According to him, more than 300 election observer organisations applied for registration.

Akhtar told journalists that the EC had already redrawn the boundaries for the 300 parliamentary constituencies ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections planned for the first half of February 2026.

‘There are petitions by persons dissatisfied with the latest delimitation. We are waiting for the court’s ruling on these matters,’ he said.

The European Union would send a pre-election delegation to Bangladesh on September 22. The delegation is expected to meet EC high officials, Akhtar informed the journalists.
