Tanzid Hasan鈥檚 89 off 62 balls went in vain as Bangladesh suffered a clean sweep at the hands of the West Indies when they lost the third and final T20I of the series by five wickets at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.听
Bangladesh managed 151 runs despite Tanzid鈥檚 valiant effort after opting to bat first. Despite a slow start, West Indies reached the target with 3.1 overs in hand. For the visitors, Ackeem Auguste and Roston Chase both smashed quickfire half centuries.
Auguste made 50 off 24, which was his maiden fifty, while Chase struck 50 off 29. They added 91 runs off 46 balls, the highest for the fourth wicket for the West Indies against Bangladesh. 听
Having won the previous four bilateral series, this was Bangladesh鈥檚 first clean sweep since they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat against Pakistan in May.听
Chasing a moderate target, Alick Athanaze struggled before falling on one off eight when he was stumped off Mahedi Hasan. However, Amir Jangoo got things going when he struck Taskin Ahmed for 18 in the fifth over.听
Brandon King and Jangoo, who made 34 off 23, fell in the space of 12 balls to Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain, respectively, before Auguste and Chase took control.听
They both fell in space of three deliveries off Rishad, but it was all but over for the hosts at that point. 听
Earlier, Bangladesh鈥檚 batting was all about Tanzid, who scored 58.94 per cent of the team鈥檚 total, the highest for any Bangladeshi batter, surpassing Tamim Iqbal鈥檚 57.22 per cent against Oman at Dharamsala in 2016.听
Parvez Hossain and Liton Das couldn鈥檛 get in despite having spent some time. Only Saif Hassan, who made 23 off 22, could reach double figures other than Tanzid, with whom he added 63 off 43, the highest partnership of the innings.听
Tanzid became the fastest Bangladeshi batter in terms of innings (42) to reach 1,000 career runs on his way to reaching his 10th fifty in 36 balls. He toppled Towhid Hridoy, who needed 45 innings.听
However, Tanzid was fortunate to be dropped on 0, 12, 58, and 66 runs, and he also received a reprieve through a successful review.听
The left-hander finally fell on the first ball of the final over, as he was dismissed at mid-off. He hit nine fours and four sixes.听
Shoriful Islam was bowled in the next ball, and that completed Romario Shepherd鈥檚 hat-trick, who had Nurul Hasan on the last ball of his previous over.听
Shepherd, who finished with 3-36, became the second West Indian after Jason Holder to claim a T20I hat-trick. Bangladesh lost seven wickets while adding 33 runs in the last 25 balls.听
Holder and Khary Pierre each took two, while Akeal Hossain and Roston Chase shared two wickets between them.听
