The Board of Control for Cricket in India has asked the Bangladesh Cricket Board to defer next month’s tour to Bangladesh, said a BCB director on Wednesday.

The Indian cricket team is supposed to come to Bangladesh for a limited-over series consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is.

‘The situation is that they have asked to defer [the series],’ BCB’s chairman of media and communications, Iftekhar Rahman, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

‘But one thing we have to understand is that the series is under the FTP, so they can ask to defer it but not to cancel it,’ he added.

However, Iftekhar said that their Indian counterparts didn’t raise any concern or specify any reason behind it.

‘All they have said is that they have some problems at the moment. But they haven’t raised any concern. They [BCCI] have stated that they are currently unable to manage the situation. They have started the discussion,’ Iftekhar said.

Speculation exists that India may be hesitant to tour Bangladesh due to the recent political changes in the country.

The uncertainty follows recent diplomatic tensions between Dhaka and New Delhi after Bangladesh’s mass uprising toppled then-prime minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.

The ruling party of India, the BJP, was closely tied with the Awami League.
