Bangladesh men’s national cricket team skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was in the hope that if they managed to put their experience on display, then they would have a good series against Pakistan next month.

The Tigers will travel to Pakistan for two Tests next month – their first to the country since 2020.

The first Test will begin in Rawalpindi on August 21 before the second in Karachi on August 30.

Shanto believed that while the series would be challenging, they had the goods to do well there.

‘It will be challenging as Pakistan are a good team. But I think we have a few experienced players in this format like Mushfiqur [Rahim] and Mominul [Haque]. If we can play to our strengths and use our experience, then of course the series will go well,’ he said.

This will be Shanto’s first overseas assignment as the Test captain of Bangladesh as all of the previous four Tests he led the Tigers in were at home.

The skipper is coming off a poor T20 World Cup on both personal and team level but now his focus only remains on what is coming.

‘The forthcoming Pakistan series is in a different format. We will have a few players who were not part of the T20 team. They have already been preparing,’ he said.

‘There is adequate time for preparation ahead of that series. Everything is planned. There are practice matches and sessions scheduled. We want to do this well and be well prepared before heading into the series.’
