Law enforcers on Tuesday arrested a 19-year-old college student from Godagari upazila in Rajshahi on charges of making derogatory remarks about the July mass uprising and its participants.
The arrestee is Sheikh Mifta Faiza, daughter of Mosharaf Hossain Chopal Sheikh of Dighapatia area under Natore Sadar upazila, said Rajshahi Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner (CTTC) and additional deputy commissioner Gaziur Rahman.
He told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that a joint team of the RMP’s detective branch and Kakonhat police outpost arrested Faiza from Pakri Goalpara area on Tuesday, two days after a youth named Tanvir Ahmed Sweet lodged a complaint with the DB against her.
Gaziur Rahman said that Faiza had recently recorded a video in front of the July Memorial at the C&B intersection in Rajshahi city, where she used abusive language and made derogatory comments about the July movement and its participants before posting it on social media.
‘Faiza was also active in favour of the banned organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League, sharing various posts, photos and videos on its behalf, and maintaining multiple Telegram and WhatsApp groups to coordinate communication among the members,’ he said.
The police official said that investigators had found evidence from her Facebook and other online activities suggesting involvement in actions ‘conspiratorial to the state’s integrity, solidarity, public security and sovereignty’.
He added that a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act was being filed with Rajpara Police Station.
‘She will be produced before court today with a seven-day remand prayer,’ the official said.Â
