The POLICE recovered the floating body of a Kushtia Sramik Dal leader from the River Padma in Faridpur district on Monday night, nine days after he had gone missing in a boat capsize.

The deceased, Abedur Rahman Annu, 40, son of late Atiyar Rahman, a resident of Majumpur area, was the general secretary of Kushtia Sadar upazila unit of Sramik Dal.


Faridpur region river police superintendent Abdullah Al Mamun said that a team of police, on information through the 999 emergency service, recovered the floating body from near Kabirpur char under sadar upazila in the district.

They later sent the body to Faridpur General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.

A SIM card found in the mobile phone of the deceased was used to contact the family, the police official said.

Annu went missing on November 16 when a boat capsized after being hit by a bulkhead vessel in the Padma near Haripur area of Kushtia at about 11:30am.

His wife later filed a general diary with Kushtia police station.
