Masked robbers raided a house and looted gold ornaments and cash pointing sharp weapons at a woman on Monday night at Jakiganj upazila of Sylhet.
Bivakar Deshmukhya, former convener of the Jakiganj upazila unit of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, told reporters that two masked robbers sneaked into his home at Amalshid village in Barthakuri union at around 8:00pm Monday.
‘Pointing sharp weapons at my wife, they looted two bharis of gold ornaments, five bharis of silver ornaments and Tk 1,60,000 in cash from the house,’ he said, adding that he was at the local village market at the time of the incident.
Bivakar also said that the robbers came with more accomplices who remained outside to keep watch on the house, while the two others sneaked in and looted the valuables. Â
Jakiganj police officer-in-charge Zahirul Islam Munna confirmed the incident to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· and said that they visited the spot on Monday night immediately after receiving the information.
He said that the house owner filed a complaint on Tuesday afternoon and recording a case was under way.
‘We have started an investigation,’ he added.
