The Bangladesh Public Service Commission said that the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service written examinations would start on November 27 as per schedule.

A press release, issued by the commission on Sunday, urged all candidates to participate in the written exams.

The commission said these after a section of BCS candidates from different public universities on Saturday and Sunday blocked roads in the capital Dhaka and rail tracks in Rajshahi and Mymensingh, demanding deferment of the 47th BCS written examinations.

They alleged that candidates usually got at least six months to prepare for the written examinations, whereas this year they were given only two months, prompting them to demand a ‘reasonable’ postponement of the exam schedule.

The commission press release said that the commission in November 2024 published the circular of the 47th BCS examinations and the candidates participated in the preliminary examinations on September 19, 2025.

A total of 10,644 candidates were selected in the test.

The commission on June 3 this year issued a notice saying that the 47th BCS written examinations would commence on November 27 this year, the press release said, adding that therefore, from about six months earlier the candidates were informed about the date of written tests.

The release continued that the commission believed that the preparation for BCS examinations depended on the entire academic life not only on two or six months.

If the commission now defers the exams, that will impact the schedules of the latter exams and the commission’s plans, it also said.

The commission takes position against the deferment of the exams for ‘understandable reasons’ and the commission thinks that this position of the commission is appropriate and timely, the release added.

In Dhaka, a section of the candidates mostly Dhaka University students blocked the Shahbagh crossing for about two hours on Sunday evening.

In Rajshahi, a group of candidates from Rajshahi University blocked the Dhaka–Rajshahi rail line for about six hours near the university station for the second consecutive days on Sunday.

In Mymensingh, rail communications on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route were closed for about nine hours on Sunday after a section of candidates from Bangladesh Agricultural University blocked rail tracks.
