M Matiul Islam, the country鈥檚 first finance secretary, died early Thursday.
He was 95.
His Namaz-e-janaza will be held at Azad Mosque at Gulshan today after Jummah prayer, said a statement of his family.
Matiul began his career in the Pakistan Civil Service in 1952. Following Bangladesh鈥檚 independence, he was the country鈥檚 first finance secretary in 1972, taking on the critical responsibility of rebuilding a devastated financial system.聽
Over the decades, he served as Bangladesh's envoy to the World Bank and later to the United Nations for eight and 11 years, respectively.
Matiul was born at Gerakhola village in Gopalganj on January 24, 1930.
