A woman and her younger son were stabbed to death at Basantapur village under Adarsha Sadar in Cumilla allegedly by her elder son on Monday.
The deceased were Rahela Begum, 65, wife of the late Azgar Ali, and her younger son Kamal Hossain, 35.
Rahela鈥檚 elder son Billal Hossain went into hiding while his wife Aklima Khatun has been taken into custody for questioning.
The police said that when Kamal tried to prevent his elder brother Billal from bringing drugs inside home, a heated argument ensued in the morning.
At one stage, Billal attacked Kamal with a knife and stabbed him repeatedly to death on the spot.
As their mother tried to intervene, she was stabbed and succumbed to her injuries on the way to a hospital.
Mohinul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali model police station, said that Billal鈥檚 wife had been detained for questioning.
He said that Billal had been involved in drug trafficking for a long time.
The bodies of the deceased were sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.
