Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Saturday launched an Anti-Retroviral Therapy Centre to provide free testing and treatment for HIV-positive patients.

Hospital director Brigadier General FM Shamim Ahmed inaugurated the centre at a programme held at 1:00pm at the hospital’s outpatient department.

He said that with the opening of the facility, HIV-positive patients in Rajshahi division would no longer need to travel to Bogura for ART medication and follow-up services.

The ART centre will be supervised by Dr Ibrahim Md Sharaf.

According to hospital data, 2,346 people were tested for HIV in 2025, of whom 28 were found positive and in the previous year, 27 out of 3,532 tested individuals were identified as HIV-positive.

‘With the centre now operational at RMCH, patients will receive HIV/AIDS medicines and treatment support locally,’ the director said, thanking the team involved in setting up the service.
