A union-level leader of Jatiyatabadi Swechhasebak Dal died at Khulna Medical College Hospital Tuesday morning, hours after he was hacked and beaten by a group of miscreants at Shukta village under Kalia upazila in Narail Monday night.
The victim, Masud Rana Sheikh, 50, of Shukta village, is the member secretary of the Babra-Hachla union unit of Swechhasebak Dal, the voluntary wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Police and locals said that the assailants attacked Masud Rana while he was returning home from Dutter More at about 8:00pm on Monday.
They said that the locals rescued him and rushed him to KMCH, where he died Tuesday morning.
`He came under attack following a feud over buying a mobile phone. No case was lodged and none was arrested in this connection,鈥� said Kalia police station officer in-charge Abdullah- Al-Mamun.
