A COLLEGE student died from snakebite at Aushia village of Sailkupa in Jhenaidah early Monday.

The deceased, Hridoy Hossain, 18, son of Milton Biswas, a resident of the village Aushia, was a second-year student of Jhenaidah Polytechnic Institute.

Family members said that Hridoy was sleeping in his room Sunday night when a venomous snake bit him. He was rushed to Sailkupa Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctors administered antivenom.

As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Kushtia General Hospital but died there in the early hours of Monday.

Dr Rashed Al Mamun, upazila health and family planning officer, said, 'Despite giving antivenom, his condition did not improve and then we sent him to Kushtia for advanced treatment.'

Sailkupa police station officer-in-Charge Masum Khan said that the body was handed over to the family.
