Long-route bus services from Rajshahi, Natore and Chapainawabganj districts resumed on Monday, four days after the transport owners suspended the operations.

The Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners’ Association vice-president, Bajlur Rahman Ratan, said that they had decided to operate the bus services from the three districts following a meeting with the transport workers’ leaders Monday afternoon.

The owners, without any prior announcement, suspended operations of the services from the districts Thursday night over a dispute between owners and workers over wages and allowances.

The suspension of bus services left thousands of passengers to suffer ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja holidays.

Bajlur said that, from now on, drivers operating buses between Kansat of Chapainwabganj and Dhaka would get Tk 1,950 per trip, while supervisors and helpers would get Tk 800 and 700, respectively.

He said that the drivers operating buses between Chapainawabganj Sadar and Dhaka would get Tk 1,750 per trip, while supervisors and helpers would get Tk 750 and 650, respectively.

‘We have also raised the staff’s food allowances to Tk 300 from Tk 210,’ he added.

Earlier this month, transport workers enforced two rounds of strikes demanding higher wages and allowances.
