Bodies of three construction workers were recovered from the septic tank of an under-construction building in Munshiganj on Sunday.
The deceased are Shahin Islam, 28, Firoz Mia, 18, and Mohammad Ibrahim, 25.
According to fire service officials and local people, the three had been working on the septic tank since Sunday morning.
At about noon, a worker entered the septic tank to clean it and install the top cover and fell ill due to toxic gas accumulated inside the tank.
Later, two other workers went inside the tank to rescue him and they too fell ill due to toxic gas.
Local people later informed the fire service about the incident.
Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Mohammad Shakil said that on information, the fire service rescue team reached the spot, but the three died before the rescue operation started.
