
An independent vice-president candidate in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union elections, Jalal Ahmed Jalal, was expelled from Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall early Wednesday after he allegedly stabbed his roommate.
The incident took place at midnight past Tuesday when Rabiul Haque, a student of the 2018–19 session of the political science department, was injured in the attack.
Hall provost Sirajul Islam announced Jalal’s immediate expulsion from the hall.
The provost said that Jalal was expelled from the hall for committing a brutal act. ‘Measures will also be taken to cancel his studentship.’
Jalal is a student of the television and film department at Dhaka University.
An attempted murder case has been filed with Shahbagh police station against Jalal, who is also known as Jwalamoyee Jalal.
The case was filed by Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall provost Sirajul Islam, university hall authorities said on Wednesday.
Shahbagh police station sub-inspector Asadul Islam said that Jalal was shown arrested in the case and was sent to court.
A metropolitan magistrate court in Dhaka sent Jalal to jail.
The DUCSU and hall elections are scheduled to be held on September 9.
