
Former Awami League minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain and actress Shomi Kaiser were released from jail on Thursday after securing bail in separate cases linked to the 2024 July uprising.
Additional inspector general of prisons Jahangir Kabir confirmed their release to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Thursday night.
Engineer Mosharraf Hossain was freed from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj at around 5:30pm.
He had received bail in an attempted murder case filed with Paltan police station in April 2025 and was cleared for release after intelligence agencies gave the green signal.
The former public works minister and Awami League lawmaker from a Chattogram constituency had been in custody since October 27, 2024, following his arrest in connection with attacks on protesters during the July uprising.
Actress and former e-Commerce Association president Shomi Kaiser was released from jail at around 10:40pm on Thursday.
She had received bail in an attempted murder case filed with Uttara East police in June 2024, also related to the July uprising incidents.
A jail official said she was released as there was no order to show her arrested in any other case.
Shomi was earlier granted bail in another case filed with East Uttara police on September 29, 2024.
She had been arrested on November 5, 2024 and was sent to jail four days later.
