The High Court on Monday granted interim bail to actress and former e-Commerce Association president Shomi Kaiser in the last case she faces over the violence perpetrated during the July uprising.
The bench of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Md Jabid Hossain granted the bail, clearing the way for Shomi鈥檚 release from jail, deputy attorney general Mohammad Hemayet Ullah told 抖阴精品.
He said Shomi was not named in the first information report of the particular case but was later shown arrested, even after securing bail in another July uprising case in March this year.
Asked if the government would challenge the bail, Hemayet Ullah said that the Appellate Division had not been staying High Court bail orders in those cases where the accused were not named in the FIR.
Senior lawyer Nihad Kabir, assisted by ABM Hamidul Mishbah, represented Shomi during the hearing.
On March 12, 2025, the High Court granted her bail in a separate attempted murder case that was filed after a businessman, Ishtiaq Mahmud, was injured in an attack during the uprising.
The case was lodged with the Uttara East police on September 29, 2024.
Shomi was arrested in that case on November 5, 2024, and sent to jail by a Dhaka court on November 9, 2024.
