
Three Anti-Corruption Commission officials on Wednesday testified as plaintiffs against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana’s daughters Tulip Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq and son Radwan Mujib Siddiq and others in three cases over corruption in Purbachal plot scam.
Dhaka Special Judge Court 4 judge Md Rabiul Alam recorded the testimonies of the plaintiffs — the commission’s deputy director Md Salahuddin and assistant directors Afnan Jannat Keya and SM Rashedul Hasan — on the first day of examination of prosecution witnesses in the cases.
The court has charged Hasina and Tulip in all the three cases and Rehana, Radwan and Azmina in one case each.
The court set August 28 for the next hearing in the cases.
One of the cases was filed against 17 accused, including Hasina, Rehana, Tulip, another against 18 accused, include Hasina, Azmina Siddiq, and Tulip, while the other against 18 accused, including Radwan, Tulip and Hasina.
On July 31, the court framed charges against the accused in the cases filed in January.
On the same day, judge Md Abdullah Al Mamun of the Dhaka Special Judge Court 5 framed charges in the other three cases filed against Hasina and several others over Purbachal plot scam.Â
The court on Monday recorded the testimonies of the plaintiffs against Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul and several other government officials in three other cases filed over graft in allotment of Rajuk plots at Purbachal.
One of these cases was filed against 12 accused, including Hasina, another against 17 accused, including Hasina and Sajeeb, and the other against 18 accused, including Hasina and Saima.
On July 31, the court framed charges against Hasina, Sajeeb, Saima and other accused in the cases filed in January.
On March 10, the commission approved charge sheets against 29 people including Hasina in the six cases.
The other accused are housing and public works ministry’s former state minister Sharif Ahmed, Hasina’s former personal secretary Salahuddin, the ministry’s former secretary Mohammad Shahid Ullah Khandakar, additional secretary Kazi Wachi Uddin, additional secretary Md Waliullah, administrative officer Mohammad Saiful Islam Sarker, and senior assistant secretary Purbhi Goldar, Rajuk’s former chair aMohammad Anisur Rahman Miah, former member Mohammad Khurshed Alam, member Kabir Al Asad, member Tanmoy Das, member Mohammad Nurul Islam, former member Mohammad Nasir Uddin, retired member Major Samsuddin Ahmad Chowdhury, former member Shofiul Haque, director Sheikh Shahinul Islam, director Kamrul Islam, deputy directors Mohammad Hafizur Rahman and Habibur Rahman, former deputy director Nayeb Ali Sharif, and assistant directors Faria Sultana and Mazharul Islam.
According to the charge sheets, Hasina, in collusion with top officials of Rajuk and the ministry, facilitated the allocation of the six plots — each of 10 kathas — in her and family members’ names through irregularities and corruption and abusing power during her tenure as the prime minister.
Earlier in January, the commission filed the six cases with its Dhaka-1 integrated district office.
