
The Election Commission has shortlisted 22 political parties, including the National Citizen Party for field-level verification as part of its ongoing registration process.
The registration drive began with a circular issued on March 10, with June 22 set as the deadline for applications.
A total of 143 parties applied, but none submitted all required documents initially. The EC granted all applicants 15 days to address deficiencies, election commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah told reporters on Monday after the commission held a meeting at the Election Commission building in the city.
He said that out of these, 84 parties complied with the requirement and submitted the missing documents, while 59 failed to respond.
After the preliminary scrutiny, 22 parties were found provisionally eligible, pending field verification, and the remaining 121 were declared ineligible.
The ineligible parties will receive show-cause notices and be given 15 days to respond, Sanaullah said.
The primarily eligible other parties are: Forward Party, Amajontar Dal, Bangladesh Ganatantrik Party, Bangladesh Sangskarbadhi Party , Bangladesh Nezam-e-Islam Party, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist), Maulik Bangla, Bangladesh Justice and Development Party, Jatiya Janata Party, Janatar Dal, Janata Party Bangladesh, Bangladesh Amm Janagan Party, Bangladesh Jatiya League, Bhasani Jonoshokti Party, Bangladesh Bekar Mukti Parishad, Bangladesh Communist Party (Marxist), Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD – Shahjahan Siraj), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam O Nezam-e-Islam Party, Bangladesh Bekar Samaj, Bangladesh Solution Party and Natun Bangladesh Party.
