
Politicians, lawyers, youth leaders and professionals on Monday at a discussion criticised the interim government that it failed to properly implement the July uprising spirit in the past one year.
The situation rather created distance between the government and pro uprising political parties
Biplabi Juba Samhati, youth front of Revolutionary Workers Party, organised the discussion meeting at the National Press Club. Marking the first anniversary of July uprising observed on August 5, the day when Sheikh Hasina fled to India after the fall of her regime in 2024.
Joint secretary general of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anny at the meeting said that after one year of July uprising, the country needed holding next general election as early as possible for democratic transition.
Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh general secretary Saiful Huq said that the missteps of the interim government delayed the implementation of the July uprising spirit that brought down the autocratic regime of Sheikh Hasina.
He also remarked that the pro uprising political parties were drifting away from the interim government.
Now the interim government should hold the next general election in a free, fair and credible manner to facilitate the country’s democratic transition, Saiful Huq said.
Former justice Abdus Salam Mamun called on the youths to continue exerting pressure on the incumbent government in this regard.
Chaired by Biplabi Juba Samhati convener Babar Chowdhury, its central leader Akbar Khan, journalist Ehsan Mahmood, Juba Union president Khan Asaduzzaman Masum, AB Juba Party convener Shahadatulllah Tutul, youth leaders Mir Rezaul Alam, Monjur Morshed Mamun, Mahfuz Khan, among others, addressed the meeting.
