
The Dhaka North City Corporation, in coordination with Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, the city鈥檚 development authority, has launched a drive to recover聽 and protect 1,500 acres of wetland from encroachment in line with the Detailed Area Plan.
As part of the initiative, DNCC administrator Mohammad Azaz on Thursday inaugurated the installation of warning signboards in Dhaka鈥檚 Aftabnagar area, cautioning against the buying, selling or reclassification of land under the Detailed Area Plan.
Government prohibition notice boards were installed on 377 plots of wetland, spread across 185 acres in three mouzas: 187 plots in Satarkul, 172 in Badda, and 18 in Sutivola, said a DNCC press release.聽
In addition, drives will be conducted and notice boards will be installed in areas under the jurisdiction of Dhaka North City to prevent the transfer of land designated as wetland in the Detailed Area Plan.
The DNCC administrator said that over the past three decades, an unethical and black economy has taken root in the housing sector.
He added that land had been commodified to such an extent that it is now accessible only to those who earn through illegitimate means, making it nearly impossible for honest earners to buy a flat or a plot.
RAJUK chairman Md Reazul Islam was also present at the event.
