The High Court will give its order on Sunday on a petition seeking the removal of images and videos of the victims of the July 21 fighter jet crash at a building of the Milestone School and College in Uttara.

The Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crash killed 34 people—mostly young students—and injured 165 others.

Supreme Court lawyer Tasmiah Nuhiya Ahmed filed the writ petition urging the court to direct the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission to take immediate steps to remove all photos and videos showing the dead or injured from mainstream, digital and social media.

The bench of Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua heard the petition and set Sunday for passing its order.

The lawyer also asked the court to issue a rule asking the BTRC why it failed to prevent the circulation of such images, and why it should not be held responsible for protecting public sensitivity and media ethics.

The petitioner argued that publishing live videos and images of the tragedy breaches fundamental principles of journalistic ethics, including respect for human dignity, privacy of victims and families, and the duty to minimise harm in reporting.
