Dhaka North City Corporation is moving away from the club-based model in the management of the fields and parks under the DNCC and moving towards community-based management.

DNCC administrator Mohammad Azaz said this at the eighth corporation meeting of DNCC at Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan, Dhaka on Tuesday, said a press release on Wednesday.

The DNCC administrator said that access to public parks in Dhaka was a right. ‘To ensure this right, the parks will be maintained on a community-based basis by moving away from the club-based model.’

He mentioned that the DNCC was not giving any new club the responsibility of maintaining the fields.

In phases, committees will be formed in coordination with the locals at the initiative of DNCC for all fields and parks in Dhaka and the relevant committees will be given the responsibility of maintaining them.

‘As a result, the concept of citizen ownership can be created in the fields and parks,’ he said.

As part of this, Gulshan Society has been given the responsibility of maintaining the Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park and Dr Fazle Rabbi Park.

The administrator also said, ‘Our main objective is to open the fields and parks to the common people.’

The administrator said that they would not lease any field or park. ‘These will be given the responsibility of maintaining by a committee through the community, so that the fields and parks can always be kept open for everyone.’

A committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the regional executive officer to monitor the activities of the fields and parks that are being maintained by the club on the basis of previously concluded agreements, including the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Memorial Park in Gulshan.

Through this committee, the rights of the people centered on parks and playgrounds will be guaranteed. In addition, this committee will continuously monitor whether the park and field are being managed in accordance with the appropriate rules.
