
India on Wednesday sent a team of burn-specialist doctors and nurses with necessary medical support for those under treatment with burn injuries from Monday’s Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crash into a school in Dhaka.
Indian medical team arrived in Dhaka at around 9:30pm, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka confirmed.
‘The specialized team consists of doctors and nurses arriving in Dhaka are from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, which are the two top hospitals in India specialising in burns and plastic surgery,’ said the IHC in a message.
The Indian external affairs ministry in a press release on Tuesday said, ‘A team of burn-specialist doctors and nurses with necessary medical support is scheduled to visit Dhaka shortly to treat the victims.’
The medical team would make an assessment of the condition of patients with recommendations for further treatment and specialised care in India as necessary.
Additional medical teams may also follow depending on their preliminary assessment and treatment, according to the release shared by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Wednesday.
At least 32 people, mostly primary-level students, died and around 165 were injured as the fighter jet crash-landed on the Milestone School and College campus at Uttara on Monday afternoon.
Following the incident, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences at the loss of lives in the tragic jet crash in Dhaka and conveyed assurances of support and assistance.
