
Colonel Taher killing day was observed on Monday by different factions of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, commemorating the 49th anniversary of Colonel Abu Taher鈥檚 death.
The day was observed with the vow to establish a Bangladesh free from repression.
Abu Taher, a freedom fighter and a commander of Sector 11 during the Liberation War, was hanged in the Dhaka Central Jail after a military trial on July 21, 1976.
The Jatiya Samajtanrik Dal factions said that, following a farcical trial, the military government of Ziaur Rahman had killed Taher, who was the architect of the uprising of the people and soldiers on November 7, 1975.
Leaders of the Bangladesh Jasod on Monday at a rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka demanded the restoration of democratic rule in the country after the fall of the fascist Awami League government.
The faction general secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan said that Abu Taher wanted to establish a repression-free society, but his dream remained unfulfilled so far.
He called on the interim government to hold the next general election as early as possible for the democratic transition of the country.
Chaired by the party鈥檚 standing committee member Mustuq Husein, the rally was addressed, among others, by central leaders Monjur Ahmed Monju, Abdus Salam Khokan and Karim Sikder.
Leaders of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD also held a discussion in the party鈥檚 Gulishtan central office.聽聽聽
Presided over by JSD senior vice president Tania Rob, the discussion was addressed, among others, by the party general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon, standing committee members Siraj Mia and Kamal Uddin Patowary.
Central teams of the JSD factions placed a wreath at the grave of Abu Taher at his village home at Purbadhala in Netrakona in the morning.
