A tree planting campaign was organised and saplings were distributed among the youth as part of the youth festival at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute in Gazipur on Monday.
As part of the programme, fruit and medicinal tree saplings were planted and distributed at the BRRI, said a press release.
BRRI director for administration and general services Munnujan Khanam inaugurated the programme.
At this time, saplings were distributed among all the BRRI department heads, branch heads, scientists, officers, employees and labour representatives, as well as teachers and students of BRRI Pragati Primary School and BRRI High School present at the programme.
Munnujan Khanam said, ‘Tree plantation is an effective way to combat the adverse impact on the environment due to climate change. Trees help keep the environment free from pollution by absorbing carbon dioxide and also provide oxygen. Therefore, tree plantation is very important to build a liveable world for our future generations.’
She called upon everyone to participate in the tree planting programme.
